Use Canva AI to Create Promotional Graphics
What This Does
Canva's AI features generate complete promotional graphics — Instagram posts, email headers, Amazon A+ banners — from your product photo and a short description, with AI-generated headline copy built in.
Before You Start
- You have a free Canva account (canva.com)
- You have a product photo (or can upload one)
- You know the promotion details: discount amount, deadline, product name
Steps
1. Open Canva and start a new design
Go to canva.com and click Create a design. Choose the size you need: Instagram Post (1080x1080), Email Header (600x200), or search "Amazon product banner."
2. Upload your product photo
Click Uploads in the left panel → Upload files → select your product photo. Drag it onto the canvas.
3. Use Magic Design for layout
With your photo on the canvas, click the Magic Design button in the top toolbar (looks like a wand icon). Canva generates 5-8 complete layout variants around your product image — backgrounds, text placement, color schemes. Click through to preview each.
4. Select a layout and customize
Choose the layout that fits your brand. Click on text elements to edit them. For the headline, click the text box where the placeholder copy is.
5. Use Magic Write for ad copy
With the text box selected, click the AI button in the text toolbar (or right-click → "Magic Write"). Type a brief description: "Flash sale — 20% off [product name] this weekend only." Magic Write generates headline text in your chosen design's font and style.
6. Review, adjust colors, and download
Check that brand colors are consistent (use the color picker to match your brand hex codes). Click Download → choose PNG for social media, JPG for email.
Real Example
Scenario: You need a "Prime Day Sale" banner for email and Instagram — announcing 25% off your top-selling item.
What you type/do: Upload product photo → Magic Design → select layout → click headline text box → Magic Write: "Prime Day — 25% off [product name]. Today only." → adjust font size → download.
What you get: Two ready-to-use graphics (Instagram post + email banner) in about 12 minutes, with professional layout and on-brand copy.
Tips
- Canva's Magic Design works best with clean product photos on white or neutral backgrounds — lifestyle photos work too but produce less consistent layouts
- Save your brand colors as a Canva Brand Kit (paid feature) to maintain consistency across every graphic you create
- Create all sizes from the same design session — Canva's "Resize" feature (paid) scales one design to all your needed dimensions
Tool interfaces change — if a button has moved, look for similar AI/magic/smart options in the same menu area.
