What you'll accomplish

Professional lifestyle images showing your product in realistic settings, without hiring a photographer or renting a studio. Midjourney generates them, and this guide shows you how to write the prompts that produce results you can actually use alongside your Amazon main images and Shopify store.

What you'll need

A Midjourney subscription at midjourney.com ($10/month)
A Discord account (Midjourney runs through Discord)
Your product's key attributes written down (color, size, material, use case)
Time needed: 45-60 min to learn the workflow; 15-20 min per image set after
Cost: $10/month

Step 1: Set Up Midjourney

Go to midjourney.com and subscribe (choose Basic plan to start)
You'll be directed to join the Midjourney Discord server. Click Join the Beta
In Discord, find a #newbies channel or click Go to Discord from the Midjourney website
Alternatively, once subscribed, you can use the Create page directly at midjourney.com. The web interface is easier for beginners, and you type your prompt straight into the Imagine bar there instead of using the /imagine command

What you should see: Either the Midjourney website with an image generation field, or Discord with a message field

Step 2: Learn the Basic Prompt Structure

Midjourney prompts follow this structure:

[product name and color] [in a lifestyle setting] [lighting style] [photo style] [aspect ratio]

Example: stainless steel insulated water bottle in earthy tones, placed next to hiking boots on a mountain trail at golden hour, natural lighting, lifestyle product photography, --ar 4:3

Key parameters:

--ar 1:1: square format, good for Instagram
--ar 4:3 gives a horizontal image, useful for product detail shots
--ar 9:16 produces a vertical image for Stories or Pinterest

Step 3: Generate Your First Lifestyle Image

In Discord, type /imagine followed by your prompt. On the Midjourney website's Create page, skip that and type the prompt straight into the Imagine bar
Start with a simple prompt:

Wait 30-60 seconds. Midjourney generates a 2×2 grid of 4 variations
